Baobab Superfood Power. Explained.
Baobab fruit pulp is a pale powder that naturally dehydrates in the fruit of the baobab tree (Adansonia digitata). Baobab fruit is very high in antioxidants, higher than that of pomegranates, blueberries, acai berries, cranberries, or most other fruits. Baobab fruit is also high in Vitamin C, which plays an important role in protecting cells and keeping the body healthy. Baobab fruit contains more Vitamin C than kiwi, strawberry, orange or grapefruit. Our powbab® Baobab contains a powerful Vitamin C content, delivering 20% daily Vitamin C in two teaspoons. Baobab fruit contains more than 12 minerals and vitamins. We feature a few comparison charts measured on a per gram basis that show just how powerful Baobab is to other foods. They blew us away.
Dietary fiber is really important. Fiber helps to maintain a healthy digestive tract and reduces inflammation. Baobab contains over 50% total dietary fiber – higher than all 'super fruits'. The total fiber is split into 75% soluble fiber and 25% insoluble fiber. Pectin is one source of fiber in baobab and has been reported to have a role in reducing total and LDL cholesterol.
Baobab fruit is an extraordinary source of calcium. Since baobab is plant based, this calcium source is particularly beneficial to vegans and vegetarians. Baobab calcium levels beat out milk and many leafy vegetables, as well as most fruits including apples, apricots, bananas and peaches.
Potassium is particularly important for the nervous system and muscle function. Potassium loss can occur through sweating, during which we should replenish. Baobab fruit has almost six times more potassium than the banana, which is frequently recommended for potassium. Even though apricots and avocados have significantly higher potassium levels than bananas, Baobab beats them all out.
